Compassion and Justice
UPAJ – United Power for Action and Justice
United Power is an organization of organizations and St. Philip is an active member. It is made up of churches, synagogues, mosques and community organizations. It is non- partisan: moderates, conservatives, liberals and radicals committed to acting on our social values for the common good.
Currently our major campaigns are related to mental health support and services in the area and Do Not Stand Idly By, a campaign to curb gun violence.
We meet regularly with area leaders to influence change and attend rallies and assemblies.
PADS – Providing Advocacy, Dignity, and Shelter
PADS provides temporary shelter and food to those in need in our communities. St. Philip partners with St. Mark Lutheran Church in Mt. Prospect, and we provide meals on the third Monday of October, November, January, March, and April.
Look out for details about how you can donate food and/or serve at PADs.

CROP Hunger Walk – Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty
Every October we join other faith communities in the area and across the country to raise funds for Church World Service to stop world hunger. 25% of all money raised stays local, supporting the Northfield Township Food Pantry. This year our team raised $2000!
Elijah’s Pantry and Chicago Food Depository
Elijah’s Pantry has been serving the Logan Square area for over forty years by providing food to those who cannot provide for themselves.
St. Philip has supported this ministry by picking up two to three thousand pounds of food every week, every other month from the Chicago Food Depository and delivering it to the pantry. We also provide Easter Baskets and a Christmas party for the families. At the party we give a Jewel Food Gift Card to each of the families, take pictures with Santa Claus, have a craft table and give each child a stocking filled with goodies.
Elijah’s Pantry now serves approximately six hundred people each month.
Twice a year we serve at Chicago Food Depository where hours worked are turned into buying power for Elijah’s Pantry.

Youth Services of Glenview/Northbrook
We at St. Philip have been supportive of Youth Services of Glenview and Northbrook in several ways.
For many years we have participated in their Holiday Gift Program by sponsoring families of our community who are in need. We are given the wish lists of approximately 20-25 individuals and share in donating funds, shopping, and providing gifts for them. We also have the opportunity to participate with the mass gift wrapping project that Youth Services organizes.
During the summer months, we choose a day to provide nutritious lunches for 50-55 youth who are part of the Youth Services Summer Camp Program.
In addition to these hands-on services, St. Philip has had members who have served on the board of Youth Services, and one of our members is currently on the Friends of Youth Services Board.
On the last Monday of every month, a group of willing volunteers from St. Philip serve at the WINGS resale store on Rand Road, straightening out racks and anything else that is needed. Following this, the group meets for a book study. The group has much fun as they serve and learn together.
Mats for the Homeless
We make lightweight, waterproof sleeping mats for the homeless out of crocheted plastic grocery bags. We use grocery size or larger plastic bags and people to cut and inter weave them into "plarn". The “plarn” is then used to crochet into mats. They are much appreciated.

Community Dinner
What does it take to prepare and serve a meal for someone in need? It takes an individual, family or group looking to reach out and assist people within the community. Our meals consist of an entrée, side, salad and dessert. Paper goods are provided and members of St. Philip do the set up/clean up so the hard work is done! Preparing and serving meals is rewarding. If you would like to share in a community outreach experience, please contact us at info@stphilipglenview.org
Clothes Closet
We open the clothes closet and pet food pantry three times a week, providing clothes to those registered with Northfield Food Pantry. We always welcome volunteers to come and help sort and fold donated clothes and help our clients. Donations are always welcome but request that they be clean and only gently used. You can drop off during the times that the Clothes Closet is open (T 5-6:30pm, TH 9-11am, S 10-noon) or by scheduling a drop-off by calling the church office at 847-998-1946 or emailing info@stphilipglenview.org.
